Female human remains were found in a basement of a residential building in Williamsburg, the NYPD says.
Police responded to a call of an unresponsive and unconscious person at 330 Bushwick Ave. just before 10 a.m.
When officers arrived, they made the discovery in the basement.
The chief medical examiner will determine cause of death. Further details about the remains have not yet been provided by police.
News 12 cameras saw multiple NYPD crime scene units photographing trash bags from the buildings incinerator room. The door to that room appeared to be at the center of the crime scene.
Witnesses told News 12 that they saw a large bag being removed by units shortly after they arrived at the scene. Police could not confirm if that bag contained the female human remains.
Residents there were left shaken up.
“To take a lady and leave her like that, we are human beings we are not trash” said one resident who asked for his name to not be shared.
Sources confirmed to News 12 that it was a NYCHA worker that made the discovery of the female body in the building's basement.
"I don't even know people have access to the basement. These doors to the buildings are always open, people bring others in and they do all kinds of things," said one resident who asked to not be identified. She added she hopes the victim gets justice.
Police told News 12 Sunday night the office of the medical examiner was working to determine cause of death.
