Hundreds of cyclists kicked off the 28th annual Tour de Bronx on Saturday to embark on a 25-mile journey around the borough.
Organizers say over 1,000 cyclists were expected to take to the streets of the Bronx for the event’s first comeback since the pandemic.
The 25-mile route spans across the borough, on greenways, through neighborhoods, historical attractions, waterfront sites and more that the Bronx has to offer.
The cyclists made stops at the Castle Hill YMCA and Pelham Bay Park for nourishments before finishing up at the Botanical Gardens with a large festival.
Tour de Bronx started in 1994 by the Office of Bronx Borough President and Bronx Tourism.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson participated in this year's event. She says as an amateur cyclist, she’s been practicing for the big day.
"I give respect to all those who can ride 40, 50, 60 miles. I'm just trying to get through the 25," says Gibson
If you didn’t get to participate in this year's Tour de Bronx, you can do a self-guided 10-mile or 40-mile tour from your phone. For more information, visit the Bronx Tourism Council’s website.
