A Grammy Award-winning music teacher in the borough is up for one of the world's most prestigious awards.
Music teacher Melissa Salguero at PS 48 in Hunts Point is on the top 50 shortlist for $1 million Global Teacher Prize. There were 10,000 nominees from 179 countries.
When the Florida native first came to the school eight years ago, it didn’t have a music program of its own. It has since been built up, especially after obtaining a grant from Ellen DeGeneres two years ago.
Her dedication to the school even got her a Grammy Award last year.
If Salguero wins, she says she’d help refurbish the school’s auditorium and throw a pizza party.
