Workers and management at the Hunts Point produce market have reached a tentative contract deal Wednesday.

A strike was looming Tuesday after Local Teamsters Union 202 rejected a new offer from market management that would increase wages by 30-cents per hour for workers.

Union leaders wanted at least a dollar raise, and so they voted unanimously Saturday to reject the new contract and authorize a strike.

However, a deal was reached between the Local Teamsters Union 202 and market officials late Tuesday night.

The market is the largest produce vendor in the area and provides food to thousands of restaurants, bodegas, and other businesses across the tristate.

Market officials say they were ready to begin work Wednesday regardless of a strike.
