Illegally parked tractor-trailers continue to plague parts of the North Bronx, particularly on the Nereid Avenue Bridge in Wakefield.
News 12 has
reported on this ongoing story since at least 2021, and residents say not much has changed. Department of Transportation sources tell News 12 that this is an “enforcement issue.”
Neighbors in Woodlawn called into News 12 Bronx’s Ask the Borough President show to complain about the massive 18-wheelers that allegedly leave behind trash and attract illicit activity. News 12's crews noticed that some of the vehicles on the bridge had tickets on their dashboards for illegally parking with issue dates that were weeks old.
Multiple city agencies and local leaders have worked on the problem from a City Council-approved
law to designate parking lots for truckers co-sponsored by Bronx Councilwoman Amanda Farías to the DOT’s
Truck Route Network Redesign. In News 12 previously reported that the NYPD and Yonkers police were also both involved with enforcement and Mayor Eric Adams’s office told News 12 that they would be surveying truck drivers.
The DOT told News 12 in a statement, “NYC DOT continues to work with our partners at NYPD and DSNY to develop solutions to reduce overnight truck parking. We will recommend this location for targeted enforcement and will continue reviewing community feedback as part of our ongoing Truck Route Network Redesign.”
Public comment for the network redesign ended in July.
