Police identified a body found back in July as a Bronx mother who’s been missing for more than a year.
Police discovered the decomposing body over the summer on Intervale Avenue.
More than four months later, the medical examiner is confirming that those are the remains of Racheal Lopez, found about a mile away from her home — turning a missing person case — into a homicide investigation.
The family of Lopez says they are heartbroken by the news from police that investigators believe she was killed.
The 47-year-old was reported missing by her daughter in September of last year, and her children posted flyers around the neighborhood hoping for information. They received news last week that the mother of four was dead.
Lopez’s family hasn’t revealed too many details surrounding her disappearance because it is an ongoing investigation.
Now, they’re desperately hoping whoever is responsible is caught. They say the holidays were her favorite time of year and that receiving the news is especially difficult.
They’re asking anyone with information about her death to come forward and give them closure.
