A City Island restaurant stayed opened on Sunday as the nor'easter pounded the tri state region with heavy rain and strong winds.

John Pirraglia, owner of Jp's City Island seafood restaurant, said it's part of owning a business closed to the coast.

"It's the price of being in paradise...and City Island's a paradise," Pirraglia said.

Pirraglia also anticipated customers at his restaurant before the weather got worse. Renee Robinson was one such customer.

"The waters are not usually this high. So, it if this is just the beginning, I think it's going to get worse. Probably going to get worse" she said.

Just a few minutes from City Island, the Country Club experienced a power outage. According to Con Edison's Outage Map, 36 customers were without service as of Sunday night.

"I was laying down watching the football game, and next thing you know, sparks fire. They just went 'pop,' and everything went out," said Ray Acosta, a resident in the area for 26 years.

Acosta told News 12 he was the first person to call Con Edison. He also said it was not the first time it has happened, but he was worried this time around because of the nor'easter.

"This area is floody. So, if they don't get those lights on, pretty soon people are going to have an inch or two inches of water in the basement," he said.

Con Edison arrived on scene at Country Club Road shortly after Acosta's call. The utility also shared on X that its crews would be on standby, ready to respond to emergencies.
