King Kullen has announced that the company will be closing two more Long Island locations by the end of September.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that the store's Lake Ronkonkoma location will close on Aug. 22, and its North Babylon location will close on Sept. 26.
King Kullen, which is in the process of being bought by Stop & Shop, says it decided to close stores that were “underperforming” rather than renew leases set to expire.
News 12 is told that employees are to be reassigned and that no layoffs are planned.
In June, King Kullen closed its Mount Sinai location and reassigned those who worked there to other stores as well.
Stop & Shop does not yet own King Kullen, but News 12 is told that the purchase is in progress and should be completed by the end of the year.
Advocates for livable communities like AARP say they're hoping new supermarkets replace the ones that are closing.
