The developers in charge of revamping the Kingsbridge Armory have filed a lawsuit against city officials.
Kingsbridge National Ice Center officials claim that the New York City Economic Development Corporation is requiring proof that KNIC has enough money to build the ice center. KNIC says the NYCEDC has refused to hand over the keys to the building until funding is secured.
KNIC officials say the funds are ready to go, adding that the state had promised to foot most of the bill. They say the NYCEDC is only counting the money that is currently in an account.
KNIC released a statement saying, "The lawsuit seeks delivery of the lease and to address what our clients believe was an ongoing conspiracy to take this project from its rightful owners and put it in the hands of others."
In response, the NYCEDC said, "NYCEDC has bent over backwards to support the Kingsbridge project through continued legal and operational challenges faced by the KNIC team. Any allegations to the contrary are totally unfounded."
Many residents say they are tired of looking at the chain-link fence that surrounds the property, which they would like to see redeveloped.
