Volunteers from KIPP NYC College Prep High School are helping to relieve financial stress for some Bronx families that have been hit hard during the coronavirus pandemic.
“More people are losing jobs and food insecurity is now increasing. We have an opportunity here to provide food and help them weather the storm,” said volunteer Michael Ioli.
They have teamed up with Food Bank for NYC with hopes of curbing hunger during the crisis since mid-March.
The high school has distributed more than 2,000 grab-and-go meals to students and 15 other charter locations.
Now, they’re expanding efforts by turning the school building into a community pantry for the neighborhood.
