Eight charter schools are filing a suit against the U.S.
Department of Education, saying that nearly $1 million in program funding was
awarded to them but allegedly taken away.
Rep. Ritchie Torres joined administration and parents
from two of those eight city charter schools at a news conference at
Zeta Charter Schools’ South Bronx Campus.
One charter school administrator said that the promised
funds had been budgeted for as the school planned to return to in-person
learning – but they never received those funds.
Parents also spoke at the South Bronx gathering on Monday, asking
for answers to where the funds for their children’s education could have gone.
News 12 has reached out to the USDOE for a comment on this
lawsuit and are still waiting for a response.
