A Bronx college is providing free speech therapy treatments to people with Parkinson's disease and Parkinson plus syndrome.
The 'Speak Out!' program at Lehman College is new at the school's Speech and Hearing Center.
The program focuses on speaking with intent and practicing the use of intentional speech during vocal warmups and exercises.
Patients work with student clinicians. A graduate student in the program says she feels privileged to be able to work with them.
The program lasts for 12 weeks, and when it is over, patients can participate in the “Loud Crowd” group therapy program.
