Long Islanders with family and friends in Ukraine are watching and waiting to hear from their loved ones.
Great Neck resident Volodymyr Tsyalkovsky is one of the many trying to reach citizens he knows in Ukraine.
"I feel like I have a second job because we are constantly on the phone, talking to the family and friends in Ukraine," Tsyalkovsky says.
Friday marked the second day of Russia's invasion into Ukraine with troops reportedly forcing their way into the capital of Kyiv.
The U.S. and other countries have imposed multiple sanctions on Russia and its economy, but Tsyalkovsky feel more needs to be done.
"I believe there's more that needs to be done to stop this aggression because he doesn't seem like he has intention to stop," Tsyalkovsky says. "He needs to be stopped."
On Friday, NATO activated the NATO Response Force as a defensive measure in response to Russia's invasion.
