The Transit Authority keeps several heart-starting devices at its executive headquarters. However, defibrillators are reportedly missing from many Bronx and city subway stations.
According to a Daily News report, only seven of the system?s 468 stations have defibrillators. The report also says there are 15 life-saving devices at the Transit Authority headquarters. A study will now be done to test the feasibility of placing defibrillators where a large number of employees work.
Defibrillators cost approximately $2,000 each. Experts say they are vital to saving lives. The transit union president has been arguing for increased safety equipment and defibrillator training for all bus and subway workers.
