A $15 million federal grant is coming to Brooklyn to revitalize and modernize the Grand Street Bridge.
The bridge sees over 10,000 cars drive over it every day, according to city officials. It’s been standing for over 100 years and saw some significant damages after Superstorm Sandy touched down in New York City.
U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand sent a letter to the federal Department of Transportation in 2023 in support of the new project, and now the bridge will be redeveloped. It’ll be rebuilt so that it’s resilient against water damage, plus it will have wider lanes, different paths for bikers and bigger walking paths.
It’s unknown at this time when construction will begin along the bridge.
