Make The Road New York, an immigrant-focused organization, re-launched its Deportation Defense Manual to help undocumented immigrants deal with Immigration Customs Enforcement.
The guide is broken into three parts – knowing your rights, responding to raids and defending yourself.
For Jimmy, an advocate for Make The Road, the manual includes things that he needed to know when he was in ICE custody for five months.
“A lot of times the people who are detained don't have or don’t know an idea of how to defend themselves or their rights,” said Jimmy. “There was one time I left detention, I saw the opportunity to be a voice for the people who are detained.”
