Massive fire destroys mixed-use building in Mount Hope
A massive fire in Mount Hope Saturday left a mixed-use building destroyed.
Firefighters responded to the scene at 1875 Carter Ave. at around 6 p.m.
No injuries were reported but News 12 was told that some families lost their homes.
The fire traveled so fast that the trees began to catch fire, but firefighters acted quickly before it could spread further.
The assistant fire chief told News 12 that when they arrived, they saw the fire in the auto body shop garage, which is adjacent to the mixed-use building. They soon found another heavy fire in the back of a two-story building.
The heat wave was harsh on first responders. Almost 200 firefighters were being rotated in and out of the scene, so they wouldn’t suffer heat stroke or exhaustion.
