Mayor Eric Adams signed two major bills into law for New York City Wednesday.
The first legislation provides support to high school seniors with disabilities as they transition to higher education.
The second law prohibits takeout and delivery services from including single-use plastics - such as forks, knifes and sauce packets - in an effort to reduce plastic waste. The law was said to be inspired by students.
Officials say the bill will ultimately help small businesses keep more money in their pockets and decrease the city's carbon footprint.
The Natural Resources Defense Council says about 20,000 tons of plastic waste is found in landfills yearly in the city.
