Mayor
Bill de Blasio announced a three-pronged plan Friday to vaccinate homebound
seniors and home care workers.
The
mayor was outside the Nostrand Houses in Sheepshead Bay when he said new
clinics would open in the boroughs designated specifically for senior citizens
as well as what measures are being taken to bring the vaccine into the homes of
older New Yorkers next month.
He
says the goal is to inoculate 25,000 aides over the next month. The
city will have dedicated appointments for the aides in areas where they live
and work. Once the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is available in the city,
there will be an initiative to have medical personnel go to apartments of
homebound seniors. The city realizes that it may be difficult for most seniors
to schedule appointments online so they have a different approach.
"They're
going door to door and they're actually entering names into the
appointment system,” said de Blasio. “They're taking the onus on to the
staff to really make sure that we're scheduling them. They're getting their
times, making sure they know what materials to bring downstairs when
they're getting vaccinated."
