The announcement comes as the city is seeing a downward trend in coronavirus cases.
"New York City is currently in a low-risk environment," Adams said in a statement. "If we continue to see low levels of risk, then, on Monday, April 4, we will make masks optional for 2-4 year old children in schools and daycare settings."
Masks will still be available for students and school staff members who prefer wearing one in the public setting.
