Mayor Bill de Blasio told the audience of a town hall meeting that Devoe Park would get new lighting and security gates in Morris Heights Wednesday evening.
The announcement drew a round of applause.
The event started off with a moment of silence for slain NYPD Detective Miosotis Familia, who was killed in the line of duty in Fordham last week.
The mayor also spoke briefly about his new citywide war on rats and the health issues they bring.
Residents had the chance to ask the mayor questions, and they raised issues about affordable housing and homeless shelters.
