Milford residents unsatisfied after calls for pause on speed and red-light cameras, but not all Flock cameras

Following weeks of backlash from the community, Milford Mayor Richard Smith is calling for a pause on all speed and red-light cameras in the city, as well as most Flock cameras.
“Many Milford residents have raised legitimate questions," Smith says. "And I’ve listened."
The final decision ultimately lies with the Board of Alderman.
The mayor says he still wants Flock cameras located on the city’s borders to remain active to help track stolen cars and help police with other crimes.
“But these cameras will not exist within our community," Smith says. "Nobody can be tracked, or followed, or surveilled."
Residents say it’s still not enough.
“This is not what the people of Milford want," Andrew Rice, of Milford, says. "It's not nearly enough ... he needs to take down all the cameras."
The mayor is recommending suspending all speed and red-light cameras so the city can review their locations, the hours the cameras are operating, fines, subsequent hearing procedures and more.
“I think it goes part of the way there, but it doesn’t go all of the way there," Alderman Win Smith III says. "Any fines that have gone out to Milford residents should be immediately reimbursed back to the residents ... I know Milford taxpayers would appreciate that."
A special meeting is set for Thursday night.
