Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he will not resign despite top
Democrats calling for him to step down as a total of seven women have accused
him of inappropriate behavior.
The most recent allegations against Cuomo come from a former
statehouse reported who told New York Magazine she was sexually harassed by the
governor since the start of her career in Albany.
Sixteen House Democrats are calling for the governor’s resignation.
Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kristen Gillibrand are also calling or Cuomo to resign,
saying in part: “Gov. Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners
and the people of New York.
Gov. Cuomo should resign.”
The Assembly Judiciary Committee is gathering evidence and if they vote to
impeach then it will go to the Senate for trial.
If Cuomo is convicted then Lt.
Gov. Kathy Hochu would become the first female governor of New York.
News 12 political commentator Professor Christopher Malone says he thinks Cuomo
won’t be governor of New York beyond 2022.
“The end resule is that Let. Gov. Hochul takes over or Gov. Cuomo serves out
this term, but agree that he step down at the end of it,” Malone says.
President Joe Biden has been an ally of Cuomo, and has not commented
on whether he feels the governor should resign.
The president’s press secretary says Biden support the investigation into the
claims.
