Tenants in two Morrisania buildings say they're living in dangerous and unsanitary conditions, and they're calling on their shared management company to take action.

People who live along Franklin Avenue showed News 12 leaking walls, broken stairs and trash-filled hallways. One tenant, who asked to be identified as Meka, said water began pouring from her bathroom wall after a broken toilet wasn't fixed right away.

"We shouldn't have to live like this," she said, adding repairs took too long and left her wanting to leave. "I'm ready to move. Like, this is ridiculous."

Tenants also say safety is a major concern. They describe people smoking and using drugs in stairwells and common areas. In a neighboring building, another resident, Michelle, said rats and mice are common. She sent News 12 videos of mice in her stove and rats climbing the walls outside the building. She also said there are often people doing drugs and loitering inside who don't live there, "When they come downstairs, you got somebody getting high here and there," she said.

Residents say the buildings are managed by 1253 Estates LLC and claim communication has been minimal. News 12 reached out to the company for comment and is waiting to hear back.
