Tonight will be pretty quiet weather-wise. The wind is dropping for now and it will be mostly clear. It will be a good idea to have a heavier coat tonight and Wednesday morning though!
It is also a good opportunity to check out our next supermoon which is the full Beaver Moon. You can see this between tonight and tomorrow. It will appear slightly brighter and larger than a regular full moon. If you happen to take a photo, please share it with me and News 12 Long Island on social media!
Please make sure to secure loose outdoor objects and any holiday decorations by Wednesday morning! Otherwise, there is a risk of those items blowing away Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. All of Long Island is under a HIGH WIND WATCH by the National Weather Service. This watch will get converted to either a high wind warning or wind advisory as we get closer to the strongest wind arriving. As of now, 40 mph to 60 mph gusts are possible anywhere on Long Island from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 8 a.m. Thursday.
The wind is picking up as a cold front move across Nassau and Suffolk Counties Wednesday evening. This will also bring a quick, gusty rain shower from around 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday night. Otherwise, the focus will be on the wind and risk of numerous power outages into Thursday morning.
Other than that, there will be a few rain showers Saturday morning and again later in the day on Sunday, but neither weekend day should be a washout.
The big weather story for next week will be the arrival of the coldest air of the season thus far. Monday and Tuesday of next week will only have high temperatures in the 40s and nighttime lows potentially in the upper 20s to mid-30s. Get ready to layer up!!
