A Parkchester mother says the conditions inside her basement apartment are making her babies sick.
Janice Lindo says she’s informed management and her landlord, but that nothing has been done to get rid of what she claims is a mosquito and mold infestation.
Lindo is a mother of three and says she is trying to protect the health of her children.
“I need to get my babies out of these horrible conditions because they are getting sick,” said Lindo.
Lindo says she has been dealing with this issue for several months at the Parkchester South condominiums.
She says her baby's tiny bodies are being ravaged by the bugs. She says she recently had to take her 3-year-old son to urgent care after he suffered an allergic reaction.
She says she was told that a ruptured basement pipe may be causing water buildup.
“When it rains it gets flooded so what happens is that the mosquito breeds, they're coming up from underground into my building,” said Lindo.
She says the leaky pipes have also contributed to mold.
Lindo says she subleases the unit from K-Pro Realty. News 12 reached out to the unit owner, and he says he pays a monthly maintenance fee to Parkchester South condos and that they are responsible for repairs to apartments.
News 12 stopped by the management office but was told by security that no one was available to speak.
Lindo has filed a complaint with the city’s Housing Preservation and Development and has called 311.
She says she is considering taking the issue to court as she tries to find another place to live.
