A community is in mourning following the death of a child who fell to his death from the fourth-floor window of a Bronx apartment building.
A family member told News 12 that the mother of Miguel Ramos, 9, went to the bathroom and when she came out, she found her son nearly lifeless on the sidewalk. The non-verbal autistic boy was then taken to the hospital where he died.
Sources say an AC unit also fell when Ramos climbed up and opened a window. The NYPD is still investigating Ramos' death, but they don't believe anything criminal occurred.
The National Safety Council says that families with children should keep their windows closed and locked. They advise only opening windows that are out of a child’s reach. They also say to avoid placing furniture near windows to prevent kids from gaining access to an open window.
