17ds agoCity and state agencies are doing their part to prepare to keep New Yorkers safe during the winter.
The MTA discussed its plans for the winter months in a board meeting on Monday, particularly focusing on the seven bridges and two tunnels of New York City.
The MTA’s Bridges and Tunnels department has 115 snow-fighting fleet vehicles on standby ready to clear the roads of ice and snow, and additional safety measures like green light arrow boards, over 9,100 tons of de-icer, electronic messaging systems and inter-agency communication will be implemented.
"Our priority is to maintain safety while enabling efficient crossings of vehicles with restrictions based on sound and practical analysis of facility and environmental conditions,” said Richard Hildebrand, vice president and chief of operations for the MTA.
The MTA is encouraging residents to opt for E-ZPass rather than relying on tolls by mail for more efficient payments during extreme winter weather.
