New Yorker’s MTA rides will start costing a little more on Sunday.
A ride will now cost 15 cents more – jumping from $2.75 to $2.90 for subway and local bus rides. Express bus tickets and monthly MetroCards will also see a price increase.
This marks the first fare hike since 2019. The MTA approved this fare hike last month, saying that this will generate a 4% increase in fare revenue that will help maintain current service and increase frequency. However, riders do not seem to thing this will bring the right improvements.
“I’d be grateful for it if at least we saw some modifications, but we’re not seeing too much of that,” said Bronx resident Gladys. “All of it is happening in Manhattan and not in the Bronx.”
Fares for seniors and reduced-fare customers will remain the same.
