Bishop Robert Brennan is now the eighth bishop for the Diocese of Brooklyn after being installed Wednesday afternoon.
Brennan was born in the Bronx and raised on Long Island. He says he is happy to be serving the church in Prospect Heights.
"My feet are firmly planted. My heart is here. It's exciting. My emotion today is really one of great excitement,” said Brennan.
Brennan succeeds Bishop Nicholas Dimarzio. He was previously the bishop in Columbus, Ohio.
The diocese says he will be serving 1.3 million Catholics in Queens and Brooklyn.
Brennan says he welcomes everyone into his diocese, whether they have felt disconnected with their faith or have been coming to Mass on a regular basis.
There are a total of 177 parishes and 200 churches within the Diocese of Brooklyn.
