Companies and cities across the country are waging a war on plastic straws, however, a study suggests straws don't play a big role in ocean pollution.
While straws do contribute to pollution, studies show they are not even in the top five of most commonly collected litter items found in oceans.
According to the Ocean Conservancy, cigarette butts are the number one worst offender of pollution found in the ocean.
The organization says it collected more than 2 million cigarette butts during its international coastal cleanup.
Officials say food wrappers and plastic bottles are second and third on the list followed by plastic bottle caps and plastic bags.
