Women.NYC is accepting submissions for women or events that represent New York History.
Through the mayor's office’s 'She Built NYC' campaign, submissions of an event, person, or group must have a significant connection to New York City.
Among possible nominees are statues of women around the city.
According to Independent, of the 150 public statues of women in the city, only five depict women who actually existed.
If the nominee is an event, it must have happened at least 20 years ago.
If a person of significance is nominated, that person must no longer be living and must be known for an event, movement, or action that took place at least 20 years ago.
Groups or categories of women, not bound by time, will be taken into consideration.
Examples are single mothers, immigrant women and domestic workers.
Women.NYC says the purpose of the nominations is to create a public art collection that more fully represents the history of New York City.
The submission deadline is August 1.
