Students performed in a breakdancing competition Tuesday at Nassau Community College.

The event was part of the Nassau Community College Collegiate Jam.

Breakdancing, also known as breaking, will be a part of the Olympics for the first time at this year's Summer Games.

Breakdancing instructors say the global influence of the sport is what got it to be on one of the world's biggest stages.

"Even with breaking, you take moves from karate, gymnastics, salsa, whatever kind of dance and you add it to the culture," Kid Glyde, owner of Kids Breaking League says. "And that's why I love hip-hop and that's what I think attracts people."

Winners from the competition took home trophies and some new movies.
