Some students in Nassau are more prepared for back-to-school after attending a backpack giveaway hosted by Nassau PBA.
The department teamed up with Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton to hand out backpacks.
Those bags were stuffed with back-to-school essentials like folders, pencils and notebooks.
The county PBA president Thomas Shevlin says the annual event not only helps prepare kids for school, but also enhances the relationship between students and law enforcement.
"The PBA loves this. We love getting out here seeing the communities and the kids,” says Shevlin. “Letting them realize we're people too, we're their friends. "
Glen Cove High School hosted the giveaway.
