The National Education Association says it is facing a five-alarm crisis as more than half of the nation’s teachers and school staff resign. 
Staff shortages began even before the pandemic, but have grown even worse in the past years. 
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently 567,000 fewer educators in America's public schools today than there were before the pandemic.
