Neighbors of a Throgs Neck seawall say they're worried the bulkhead may collapse the next time a big storm hits the region.
The seawall near Schley and Vincent avenues withstood Superstorm Sandy almost five years ago, but now it looks dilapidated and crumbling.
Neighbors blame the damaged wall and an undercurrent for wreaking having on the sidewalks above. They have been demanding repairs, and the city even came up with a plan to make them, but community members say the project has stalled.
Councilman James Vacca says the city has already made some patchwork repairs, but the larger reconstruction project should have begun already.
The Department of Transportation has said in the past that construction was set to begin in fiscal year 2018 -- which Vacca explains actually began on July 1, 2017.
Vacca says funding for the restoration has already been allocated, and he is unsure why the project is facing delays.
The DOT says that it's working with city Economic Development Corporation on a resolution.
