A new Department of Motor Vehicles office at the Bronx Terminal Market opened Monday, drawing large crowds on its first day and replacing the former Fordham Road location that quietly closed earlier this fall.
Customers arriving at the old site in recent weeks found it shuttered, but state officials say the move to the mall’s sixth floor — next to Best Buy — is meant to improve accessibility and reduce wait times.
The new office is designed as a one-stop shop, allowing visitors to run errands in the mall before or after their appointments.
“It’s closed? Yeah, I did not know that,” said Brian, a Bronx resident who visited the new location. He said check-in was smooth and that he received his number quickly.
Another customer, Shameka, said she checked in online and was seen “pretty fast.”
DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder said the new site offers easier access to public transit and multiple parking garages for drivers.
Assemblymember Landon Dais, who represents the 77th District, noted that parking near the Fordham Road office “was nearly impossible,” calling the expanded parking at the Terminal Market a major improvement.
The new Bronx Terminal Market DMV will operate weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
