New businesses coming to Yankee Stadium area
Some new businesses are coming to the Yankee Stadium neighborhood just in time for baseball season.
A new Jamaican restaurant called Smokey Island Grille, a Japanese restaurant called Hibachi Grill Buffet and an urgent-care center are all coming to Yankee Stadium neighborhood.
The new businesses join two landmarks in the area -- one being the house that Steinbrenner built and the other, the Bronx Civic Center.
The 161st Street Business Improvement District is excited about the additions. It says the additions come on the heels of a Chipotle that opened up in the area last month and a Starbucks right before that.
The additions of the restaurants will also give fans more food options near the stadium, but some say that when big chains move in, real estate prices rise.
The executive director of 161st Street Business Improvement District says that people should not worry about gentrification in the neighborhood.
"It's not a residential neighborhood, so we're not going to be displacing anyone by having new dining options that cater to different people coming and enjoying themselves here. Hopefully, we will be building a residential neighborhood here," says Dr. Cary Goodman.
Smokey Island Grille will be near Starbucks, Hibachi Grill Buffet will be in the Concourse Plaza Mall and the urgent-care center will be next to Leff Pharmacy.
