A new clothing line featuring a Brooklyn artist is blending art therapy into fashion.
Yu Chen is one of several artists featured in the first collection of ALIVA.
The name stands for awareness, love, inclusion, voice, individuality and acceptance.
Jovana Mullins, co-founder and creative director says she has been in the fashion industry for the past 10 years. She started volunteering at a center for all abilities, where they work for youth and young adults with developmental disabilities using art therapy.
"When I saw this artwork being created I was like, 'this is so much more powerful and so much more meaningful' and I kind of immediately envisioned it on dresses and scarves," Mullins said.
Mullins says she takes artists work, scans it and adds it to her collection.
For every purchase, the company donates 10% of the actual price directly to a non-profit art therapy program.
