A new testing site is opening in Bushwick as local leaders continue to fight for more testing sites across the city.
It was actually at Wyckoff Medical Center in Bushwick where the first coronavirus attributed fatality in New York City was reported, which those in support of the new site say just shows how important it was to open one in the community
Assemblymember Maritza Davila says the opening of this site is a step in the right direction, but it is just the start.
They’ve partnered with SOMOS Care and will have testing available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the next two weeks at United Revival Mennonite Church on Melrose Street between Knickerbocker Avenue and Wilson Street.
They say Latinos are one of the hardest hit communities when it comes to coronavirus, and the only way to stop the spread is to get people tested.

“Community Latinos have been left behind, and we will not stand for that,” says Lydia, of SOMOS Care. “They are the ones who might be bringing it home. We are going to continue to fight for the Hispanic community.”
She says you do not have to have symptoms to get tested, and the site will remain open for at least the next two weeks.
