Mott Haven now has a public park that will give Bronx residents waterfront access along the Harlem River.

An industrial brownfield was transformed into Bankside Park. The park provides access to the Harlem River for the first time in this neighborhood.

Crews were tasked with clearing out coal, pollutants and a crane yard in order to construct this green space. It sits right behind the Bankside development. The park offers lounge chairs, café seating, shaded areas and a gorgeous river view.

There is also commercial space where a café and a youth empowerment center will sit.

Officials say Bankside Park is just the start, and that the city plans to increase waterfront access by filling in the gaps with new green space further north in the Bronx.
