There were some tense moments for a News 12 reporter who was covering a rally on Long Island when some of the protesters began directing their anger toward him.

On Thursday, News 12 Long Island reporter Kevin Vesey was covering a rally organized by the "Setauket Patriots" calling for the reopening of New York state in Commack on Long Island.

He was doing a Facebook Live report, talking to protesters, showing people who were both wearing masks and not wearing them and explaining why they were all there. That was when some of the protesters began expressing their anger toward him.

He says he was "insulted, berated and practically chased by people who refused to wear masks.”

 

The group who organized the rally issued an apology on Facebook saying in part, "We can tell you that the few who decided to harass you and try to prevent you from doing your job are not members or affiliated with the Setauket Patriots group in any way shape or form. We were looking forward to you giving us fair coverage with what you've documented when we first arrived. But as with all mass rally events you will always get a few idiots to disrupt an otherwise peaceful pleasant demonstration and they should have been removed by police.”

News 12 is told no arrests were made during the rally.
