Poe Park continues to have safety issues - even after years of 311 complaints and reports of homeless encampments, trash and drug use in the area.

On Thursday, the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene hosted a community outreach event at the park in Fordham. It offered local residents Narcan kits and education on overdose prevention.

One day after the event, News 12 checked out Poe Park to see if the outreach made an impact.

Crews saw trash, many needles and what appeared to be drug use, just feet away from a playground.

Local residents say the city needs to do more.

"They just want to clean everything up and just call it a day. It's like, that can't happen because we're human! Trash you could throw away, a human you can't," says Fordham resident Gia.

News 12 reached out to the Department of Health for a statement, but has not heard back.
