As conditions stretched into Sunday, they said they were frustrated that on the coldest day in the past three years, their apartments offered no relief.
“I’m a senior, I have conditions that need running water, and right now I can’t shower, I can’t flush, nothing,” resident Brenda Pleasant said.
“I’m boiling water out of bottles to drink, to bathe, to do everything because we have nothing running right now,” said resident Dwanye Daniels. “Right now, with this cold, you don’t want to play with it, not at all.”
Residents say the management company has offered to reimburse those who choose to stay in a hotel during the outage.
News 12 reached out to HPD for information regarding the cause of the outage but were told crews were responding to multiple calls like this throughout the borough and were unable to respond to the inquiry.
HPD said any residents experiencing issues due to the cold should contact their landlords and HPD via 311.
Residents like Margarite Sanchez said while she appreciates management offering to reimburse hotel stays, she says that’s not something she can afford to pay for in the first place.
“You know I can’t afford that even if we get the money back, that’s just not something I can afford and you know this is basic stuff. This is running water were asking for,” she said.
Large pallets of water bottles were in the lobby as residents were anxious for water service to return.
