Thousands of people received Thanksgiving meals in the Bronx and across the city thanks to the work of a nonprofit organization and its volunteers.
More than 1,000 people volunteered with God's Love We Deliver to help cook, package and deliver meals to what was expected to be more than 4,000 people. The nonprofit's mission is to provide food for people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-altering illnesses.
In addition to providing nutritious meals, the nonprofit helps provide nutritional counseling for clients.
"Some of these clients, we're the only people that they're going to see for the holiday," said volunteer Florence Dixon. "That makes it even more special that you're going to spend just a few minutes with them."
This year, the nonprofit expected to break its record by delivering about 4,232 meals.
