The Blues and Beyond hosted a concert at the SoNo Garden in Norwalk Sunday which combined music and Juneteenth history.
The program teaches students the story of African Americans from slavery to now through music, narration and video.
The concert celebrated Juneteenth through spoken word and music.
"I believe you know we want to celebrate freedom, we're a country that is about freedom and it should be celebrated more than it just has been over the years. We're really trying to open everyone's minds and really highlight that Juneteenth is such an important day not just for African-Americans but for Americans in general," said Blues and Beyond narrator Adam Taylor.
The concert also featured a performance of original blues songs written by area students from Stamford, Region 12 and Kolbe Cathedral High School.
