This time of year can be a challenge for those who must watch what they eat, but one nurse is helping her patients stay on the right track.
Nurse Casserene Cassells, of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, helps her patients make healthier food choices by taking them grocery shopping. She says she teachers her patients on a daily basis what they should and shouldn't eat, as well as showing them healthier substitutes for certain types of food.
About two weeks ago, Lydia Nunez suffered a mild stroke. She's also a Type 2 diabetic. Her daughter felt overwhelmed with trying to control Nunez's blood sugar, so she reached out to VNSNY for help.
Nunez has so far seen positive results. Her daughter says her blood pressure has gone down, and she's grateful for Cassells' help.
VNSNY also assists patients with other health ailments.
