New York Lottery officials have issued a warning to refrain from purchasing lottery tickets as gifts for children during the holiday season.

The cautionary advisory comes as a safety measure, citing reports that a significant number of youngsters have had their initial gambling experience between the ages of 9 and 11, with at least 10% reportedly developing a gambling habit at a young age, according to New York Lottery statistics.
