A new regulation was proposed by the state’s Office of Cannabis Management that would allow New Yorkers to grow cannabis from the comfort of their homes.
The requirements that need to be met focus on ensuring that the cannabis is being grown the right way and that it will not harm your neighbors. It would require those participating to be at least 21 years old.
New Yorkers under the proposed regulation would be able to cultivate a maximum of three mature and three immature cannabis plants per person. It would limit the total number of plants per residency to six mature and six immature cannabis plants.
Those growing in their homes can possess up to 5 pounds of cannabis flower, or the equivalent weight in cannabis concentrate mixture. For safety reasons, that cannabis must be grown in a secure location out of public view.
Storage of the cannabis products must be in a place where it cannot be stolen or accessible by anyone under the age of 21.
The state’s Cannabis Control Board is set to make a decision on this rule in February. If approved by the CCB, they will go to a 60-day public comment period.
