Sunday marked the end of an era and was the last chance for many New York City commuters to take a ride on the oldest running subway cars in the world, the R-32 Brightliners.
They've served New York City for 58 years and Sunday is the last day they are running before being retired.
For some, the R-32 Brightliners marked new era of transit in the 1960s. It was the promise of better and more efficient rapid transportation in New York City.
"These trains, some of them, will still be doing chores for the Transit Authority. They may become garbage trains or work cars of other kinds. They won't completely disappear...but they'll be a rare spotting from today on," said Jodi Shapiro, Curator of the NY Transit Musuem.
